A narrated overview of various features of the Seneca language, including its vocabulary, phonetics, grammar, discursive patterns, and relation to other languages. Primarily in English, with some Seneca. Includes a brief recording of counting in Wyandot.

Vocabulary of Huron with French equivalents, semantically ordered (parts of body, terms of relationship, animals, etc.). List of names of occupants of Huron villages, L'ile aux bois blanc, 1747 (33 cabins); list of bands, locations, names of chiefs. Recorded by Father Potier, a missionary at Sandwich on the Detroit River and written at Lorette near Quebec.

This dictionary was transcribed by James R. Malenfant for Peter S. Du Ponceau from Sagard's Le Grand voyage du pays des Hurons . . . avec un Dictionnaire de la langue huronne (Paris, 1632). Consists of an alphabetical list of French phrases translated into Huron. Penciled list of names: Mr. Richard, Priest at Detroit; Mr. Marchand, Sandwich; Isaac Walker; Robert Armstrong = Oonorandoroo = Hard Scalp.

These materials are comprised of grammars, glossaries, and books of prayers and hymns, in various Native American languages. Includes Huron, Mohawk, miscellaneous Iroquoian languages; Abenaki, Algonquin, Montagnais, Micmac, Ottawa; Slave, and unidentified Northwest Coast languages. Most were written by Jesuit missionaries before 1760. Also included is a register of Indian baptisms and marriages, and a brief history of the Huron Indians.

This manuscript copy contains dictionaries of nine Indian vocabularies, such as Aztec, Algonkin, and Huron, and was taken from Reland's "Dissertationum miscellanearum pars tertia" (Utrecht, 1708). [Vocabularies compiled from printed sources,of South and North American dialects: Brasilica (1590,1595,1648); Chilensis (1647); Peruana, Poconziae [or Poconomica, Guatemala and Honduras]; Caraibica [Antilles], 1658; Mexicana [Otomitica, Chontalica, Zoquina, Cascan, Niciecana, Chicemeca dialects mentioned]; Virginiana (1966 [Eliot] 1685 [Mather], Algonkina [1703 La Hontan] Huramica (German-Huron vocabulary not included; 1822.]

The papers contain correspondence, research and teaching notes, data (card and slip) files, published and unpublished manuscripts by Lounsbury and others, books and reprints, sound recordings, and computer programs and files. Correspondents include: William N. Fenton, Mary R. Haas, William C. Sturtevant, Morris Swadesh, and Carl F. Voegelin. Roughly one-quarter of the collection relates to Iroquoian languages and includes much WPA Oneida Project material. Research into the Cherokee language, South American languages, and kinship structures is also well represented. Floyd Lounsbury's wife, Masako Yokoyama Lounsbury, is represented by a smaller amount of material relating to linguistic research in Shanghai and research on Quechua.
